Using Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack for the film Interstellar as its “script,” Soft Lights for Sleepless Nights reanimates Zimmer’s musical score, taking the audience on a surreal, image-based journey. Created in response to the social, political, racial, economic and sexual inequity that prompted large scale protests around the world during the summer of 2019, the themes of the production are just as vital today as the world responds to the Covid-19 pandemic. The performance, like Zimmer’s soundtrack, ends with Dylan Thomas’ timeless clarion call to persevere in times of uncertainty and darkness, “Do not go gentle into that good night... rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
